Usually there is an individual receiving calls but if not, a recording in English and Spanish will explain what to do in an emergency. The County does not provide services for individuals with private insurance; a list of private therapists in our county is available from this number. Drug and alcohol counseling services are not covered by Medi-Cal; a sliding pay scale is available.

Peer Group Counseling, SDVCC, Yreka 841-6629 If you are a victim or survivor of Domestic Violence, you may be interested in attending this peer group counseling session, held every Tuesday at the SDVCC office in Yreka at 209 Third Street from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. It is facilitated by Evelyn Mann-Wilder, M.S.W.

Computer skill development workshops offered on an ongoing basis including MS Word and Publisher, Web-page Design, and QuickBooks Pro.

Child Care Assistance

College of the Siskiyous, Weed 938-5352 www.siskiyous.edu C.O.S. offers a state-licensed preschool program and childcare center on the Weed Campus. C.O.S. Discovery Children’s Center is able to serve 24 preschool children, aged 4 and 5. C.O.S. Early Discovery Children’s Center is available to serve 6 toddlers, aged 18 - 36 months. An after-school program is offered for children aged 5-12 years, with transportation provided from the local elementary schools. The hours for all three programs are 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., M - F.

Siskiyou Child Care Council, Weed 938-2748 or 1-800-300-2748 Provides wide range of child care services, information about local Child Care Providers, and training to be a licensed Child Care Provider.

Siskiyou Child Care Planning Council, Yreka 842-8400 A list of pre-schools in our county is available through this office.

College of the Siskiyous, Weed 938-5377 Special grant to assist students that are participating in CalWORKs or Job Retention with child care (need referral and eligibility verification).

Karuk Tribe, Happy Camp 493-5305 Assists tribal members of federally recognized Native Americans with child care during hours of employment.

Y-Stars After-School Program and Summer Camp, Yreka (Trudy Meadows) 842-9622 After-School Program is available for children between 1st and 5th grades from 2:20 - 6:00 p.m. Summer camp duration is 8 weeks and is available for children between 1st and 5th grades from 8:00 –12:00 p.m.; Swim Club for children 1st - 8th grade from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.; and additional care available for children 1st - 8th grade from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Family Planning, Pregnancy, and Counseling Services

Hannah House Pregnancy Services, Mount Shasta 926-6707 (24/7 HELP line) or 1-877-508-HELP In addition to counseling services, they offer a 9-module Earn While You Learn program for parents with learning components that include prenatal care, nutrition, single parenting, smoking cessation, bonding with your baby, reducing risk of SIDS, infant temperament, infant massage, caring for yourself, first aid, child care, childhood illnesses, car seat safety, and discipline. By completing these modules, individuals earn “Baby Bucks” that can be used for shopping in their store (for both used and new maternity and baby items up through 3 years of age).

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Hall, 314 Fourth Street, Yreka Serves free hot meal on Saturdays (12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Nutrition Program, 1217 S. Main St., Yreka 841-4001 or 1-800-442-2333. Provides food coupons for specific nutritious foods once/month to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care for low-income pregnant and breast-feeding women, infants, and children up to age 5.

Yreka Dream Center Food Closet (Jim Jacobsen) 842-5433 The Dream Center is a department of the Life Fellowship Foursquare Church and the Food Closet is one of their “dreams of how to make the world a better place”. Food may be delivered to families residing in Yreka and Montague once/month, six days/week, T - SU.

Rowell Family Empowerment of Northern California (formerly known as SEA Center Family Resource Network), Redding and Paradise or 1-888-263-1311 or 1-877-227-3471 www.sea-center.org This Center serves families living in Northern California with an infant or toddler aged birth to three, who have a diagnosed disability or who are at risk of developing a developmental disability due to certain risk factors. They offer an array of free services including sending a specialized packet of information on the child’s disability to the parent which includes information on conditions, the latest research, and specialized programs.

Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) for Siskiyou County, Great Northern Corporation, Weed This program is designed to assist individuals who are elderly, disabled and/or families who are low income, by making payments on their behalf. Applications are accepted for this program only during one month per year (this year it was from 2/09/04 - 3/08/04). To request an application and for more information call 938-4115, Ext. * 810.

Transportation

American Cancer Society, Redding 222-1058 or 1-800-227-2345 For cancer patients needing transportation assistance to appointments in Medford or to Mercy Medical Center in Mt. Shasta. Special transportation arrangements outside of the county for necessary treatments may be arranged. Also assistance may be available for lodging, meals, and mileage reimbursement.

California Children’s Services, Siskiyou County Public Health, Yreka (Lynn Corliss) 841-2130 Assistance with transportation, meals, and lodging may be available to individuals with an open case through CCS. Applications are available from the CCS office or at www.dhs.ca.gov/ccs.

Mercy Auxiliary Transportation System, Mt. Shasta 926-0220 For transportation assistance in our county to appointments with Doctors on their “active staff list” at Mercy Medical Center in Mt. Shasta and for special procedures outside of county.

Salvation Army Immediate transportation assistance may be provided in the form of bus tickets or gas vouchers. For individuals living in Weed, call Othello Owens at Weed Police Department 938-5000; in Scott Valley, call 467-5550; in Yreka, call 842-7321.
